Waiting for the Light

Most travel photographs fail for one reason: we arrive, we lift the camera, and we leave. The light hasn't finished arriving yet. On this stretch of coast the sun drops behind the ridge and then, for about eight minutes, throws everything back up into the haze. You cannot rush it, and you cannot photograph it from the car. So we parked, we sat on the wall, and Anne made the tea. The picture cost nothing but patience.
